6th edition 2025 | COMPOSITION
PRESENTATION
The Miquel Llobet Composition Competition starts again with a sixth edition that promises to be as exciting and interesting as the previous five.
The competition will count again with a jury formed by internationally recognized professionals in each of the specialties in which the jury is articulated: interpretation, composition specialized in the instrument and composition exogenous to the guitar praxis.
The contestants will have the pleasure to have their works reviewed by: Anders Clemens, Norwegian guitarist and professor at the Conservatorio Superior de Aragón, with an outstanding international career and winner of such important competitions as the Andrés Segovia. Alí Arango, Cuban guitarist-composer renowned internationally, winner of numerous international competitions such as the Francisco Tárrega and member of the Barcelona Guitar Trio with a regular performance at the Palau de la Música Catalana and Marcos Fernández, one of our most internationally renowned current composers. His works have been performed by the Orquesta de Radio Televisión Española, the Orquesta Nacional de España or the Columbus Symphony Orchestra among many others. He has worked as a professor of composition at the TAI University in Madrid and founded a course in Theory and Composition at the Trinity Music Academy in London, where he was invited to be a member of the Royal Society of Arts in London for his work in the diffusion of music during his 12 years in the United Kingdom. Since 2019, he has been teaching at the Municipal Conservatory of Barcelona.
The competition, loyal to its mission and vision, and already internationally recognized, expects to surpass with this sixth edition more than three hundred works in its catalog, contributing in this way and through future activities, to the diffusion of today’s music and its creators.
RULES
1) Iberamerik Concert Association, organizer of the Barcelona International Guitar Contest Miquel Llobet, announces the sixth edition in Composition for Classic Guitar.
2) The contest is open to any composer of any age and nationality, provided that they were not awarded the first prize in any previous edition of the contest, or with the second prize in one of the last two editions.
3) The composition needs to be original and unpublished and it shouldn’t have been awarded any prize in any previous contest. Also, the composition shouldn’t have been premiered, published on the web, played or broadcasted in the radio or recorded on any support.
4) The composition must be written for classic guitar (any electroacustic mean, or external devices are not allowed) and it must last between 3 and 6 minutes.
5) The Jury will be composed by three well renowned international members and it will be formed by a guitar player, a composer and a composer-guitar player. In this edition the jury will be composed by: Alí Arango (guitarist-composer), Marcos Fernández (composer) i Anders Clemens (concert performer).
6) Entry in this Contest constitutes acceptance of these Contest rules. The decision of the jury will be final. The jury will give the exclusive interpretation of the rules.
REGISTRATION
7) The compositions must be sent between january 20th and June 1st of 2025. The Compositions sent before and after these dates will be excluded.
8) The compositions will be sent to this email address llobetcomposition@gmail.com together with the following documents:
a) File in a pdf format with the title and a nickname.
b) File in a pdf format with the title and a nickname an the identity of the composer (name and surnames).
c) File text or pdf format with a brief artistic biography, address, age and nationality of the composer.
d) File in a jpg format of a recent picture of the composer.
e) A sworn and signed declaration stating that the composition is unpublished, is an original, hasn’t been made public, nor discographically recorded.
f) A recording is not necessary, but a mp3 real audio, midi or Finale version of the composition will be positively valued.
9) A 25€ inscription fee will have to be sent via bank transfer to (CAIXABANK IBAN ES71 2100 5516 8121 0016 5290 SWIFT: CAIXESBB) or Paypal (certamenllobet@gmail.com). Name/nickname and title of the composition are required.
PRIZES
10) The following prizes will be issued:
a) First Prize: 1,000 euros and Honorary Certificate. Video-Recording of the composition and it’s premiere in the Art Llobet Festival or at Les Garrigues Guitar Festival. The composition will be included as a compulsory piece in the Semifinal of the following edition of the Llobet Contest in Interpretation.
b) Second Prize: 500 euros and Honorary Certificate.
11) Taxes will be applied on the prizes according to the law.
12) The Jury might award a Special Mention, which will be issued with a Honorary Certificate.
13) The Jury might not issue the prize if they don’t think that the quality of the compositions is not good enough or if they fail to fulfill any of the previously mentioned requirements.
14) The decision of the Jury will take place on Tuesday, July 1 of 2025.
15) The winner of the First Prize will commit not to make use of any kind of copyrights about his awarded work until the following Llobet Contest is finished, so that the composition can be included freely in the Interpretation contest withouth any prejudice or charges on the contestants.
16) The winners are not required the assistance to the premiere or to the contest of interpretation. If they decide to attend the organization will not pay for the travel costs, however it will ease accommodation for at least one night.

THE WILLOW AND THE STORM
ALEJANDRO MARCO GÓMEZ LOPERA (SPAIN)
Alejandro Marco Gómez Lopera (Granada, 1974) is a professor of Musical Technology at the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música in Granada. An award-winning composer with international recognition, his works have been performed at prestigious festivals across Europe, Asia, and America. He has worked as an orchestrator and arranger for artists like Vetusta Morla and collaborated with musicians such as Ara Malikian. Additionally, he has directed and produced tours for artists like José Mercé and Dorantes. His audiovisual work has also received awards at international festivals.
SECOND PRIZE
IPE AMARELO

DANIEL ALVAREZ VEIZAGA (BOLIVIA)
Daniel won the First Prize and Audience Award at the Euregio Klassika International Composition Competition (2024) in Italy. He has been recognized in multiple competitions, including Artistes en Herbe (Luxembourg, 2025) and the Carlos Guastavino competition (USA, 2023). Since 2021, he is a member of the Argentine Association of Composers. Daniel studied at the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe (Germany), UNA (Argentina), and the Plurinational Conservatory of Music (Bolivia), with renowned mentors in piano and composition.

LOS ESTADOS DE LA MEDITACIÓN

CHEMA CORREDOIRA (SPAIN)
Since 2019, the Spanish guitarist has worked as a live guitarist with Fredi Leis and as a guitar teacher at the Cantiga Conservatory. He is also a composer, producer, and music editor at DeCora Música. Among his achievements, he composed The World, chosen as the official theme for the International Young Talent Seminar in 2016, and co-created the winning work in the Componiendo un nuevo mundo competition in 2021. He was semifinalist in the FMC-Film Music Contest 2023 and co-created the soundtrack for the short film La Maleza, awarded at the La Rioja Film Festival.
GUITARIST-COMPOSER

ALÍ ARANGO (CUBA)
Alí Arango is a renowned classical guitarist, winner of 23 international awards, including prestigious ones like the Francisco Tárrega and Andrés Segovia competitions. He has recorded with labels such as Naxos and Contrastes Record and premiered several works by composers like Leo Brouwer. He has performed on major international stages, and his repertoire includes solo guitar, duos, and music for video art. Additionally, he is a producer, photographer, and composer for the PYROPHORUS GUITAR DUO project, blending Cuban music, jazz, and contemporary styles.
COMPOSER

MARCOS FERNÁNADEZ (SPAIN)
Marcos Fernández-Barrero (Barcelona, 1984) is a Spanish pianist, composer, and educator, recognized nationally and internationally. Trained in prestigious conservatories in Barcelona, Scotland, and England, he has received over twenty awards for his compositional versatility. His works have been performed by prominent orchestras from Europe, America, and Australia, with recent creations including his “Requiem” and a ballet commissioned by the City of Barcelona. Additionally, he has taught in London and currently teaches at the Conservatori Municipal de Barcelona.
GUITARIST

ANDERS CLEMENS (NORWAY)
Anders Clemens, a Norwegian guitarist born in 1976, has built an outstanding international career after studying in the Netherlands and Spain. Winner of major awards such as the “Andrés Segovia” Competition, he has performed at festivals and with orchestras across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. He also teaches at the Conservatory of Aragon and has released several acclaimed albums under the NordicSound label.

Once again, a Spanish work wins the Llobet Composition Competition. Last year’s competition went to Santiago Abadía from Madrid.

The competition has achieved a catalog of more than 300 works in six editions, a sign of the current state of new creation for the instrument.
Alejandro Marco Gómez is the new winner of this prestigious competition with his piece “The Willow and the Storm”, which stood out among many submissions for its originality and musical depth. A well-deserved recognition for this talented composer.
The second prize went to Bolivian composer Daniel Álvarez-Veizaga for his work “Ipe Amarelo”, while Galician musician José María Corredoira received an honorable mention for his piece “The States of Meditation.”
The jury, made up of renowned figures from the music world—such as guitarist and composer Alí Arango, composer Marcos Fernández, and guitarist Anders Clemens—was full of praise for the winning works. They highlighted qualities such as clear structure, the composers’ ability to develop their musical ideas, the incredible work with textures, and the poetic quality present in each composition. All of this has allowed the works not only to resonate with today’s audiences but also to invite ongoing dialogue with the collective culture.
The competition’s organizers expressed their excitement at the continued reception of a high number of entries from various corners of the world. Over the past six years, more than 300 compositions have been collected, showing the growing interest and creative vitality in contemporary music. The next edition of the competition is eagerly anticipated and will no doubt continue to promote and support new proposals in the field of musical composition.
