The international dimension of the competition, the balanced percentage of works written by non-guitarist composers and guitarist composers, the enormous stylistic variety of the works, and the good reception and criticism by the contestants for the design of the prizes, are proof that the Miquel Llobet Composition Competition has become, in its first five years, one of the international references in the world of guitar composition.

The Jury, formed by Zulema de la Cruz, Laura Young and Elodie Bouny, made a first screening in which sixteen works were semi-finalists, and seven of them passed to the final, in which, after an interesting and dynamic deliberation, the two winning works plus an honorable mention were chosen.

Santiago Abadía won the first prize with his work Tríptico de la Luz (Triptych of Light). A very well dimensioned work, which develops the materials in an intelligent way without exceeding the use of the resource, but at the same time transforming the materials in an imaginative and poetic way.

The second prize was won by Eduardo Soutullo with his work Ciaccona. Soutullo is a composer who knows the instrument perfectly and has generated an organic work, with a very clear directionality, which makes it solid in its construction and at the same time fluid in its listening.

Finally, the jury decided to award an honorable mention to Suite en Sim by the Canadian composer Suzie Auclair. A work with a profound poetic conception, taking advantage of the idiomatic resources of the instrument to generate a special sonority that makes its message even more effective.

One year again, the direction and coordination of the contest, close the edition with the satisfaction of the good reception by the guitar world and already with a collection of works in their archives of more than two hundred and fifty works, and with the desire and the illusion already put in the next edition!
