Once again, Barcelona dressed up as a guitar in different cultural and heritage spaces in the city. Art Llobet is a multidisciplinary exhibition festival of proximity between artists and the public, with the aim of sharing different experiences from the complicity of the guitar instrument with other artistic expressions.

The guitar has been a vital instrument of cultural and social expression throughout history. Generational preserver of traditions and customs. Revolutionary inspiration for social and political movements. Influential narrator of everyday experiences. In short, a mirror of society for its different historical periods. For this reason, in this edition the organising committee decided that History would be the theme of the artistic proposals, where the audience enjoyed stories with Guitar told by the invited artists in places with history such as the Biblioteca de Catalunya, the Museu de la Música, the Conservatori Municipal de Música de Barcelona, the Poblenou Cemetery, the Palau Güell or the Centro Galego de Barcelona, the former home of Eusebi Güell’s father.

The proposals of various chamber formats were intertwined with the guitar as a soloist and accompanist, highlighting the duets of Dani Jané together with the hodgepodge of popular Spanish songs with the sensual voice of Elisa Arias and the popular Catalan songs with the powerful voice of Marta Casals, surprising the audience at the Centre Cívic Fort Pienc. The classical duet was performed by the duo formed by the soprano Andrea Martí and the guitar of Ernest Martínez, at the Casal Can Travi.

Young winners also participated, such as the French François-Xavier Nicolet at the Poblenou Cemetery with a repertoire related to death, Zamora’s Sara Guerrero with a Catalan and Basque repertoire at the Museum of Music, or the Korean Jehee Lee with great works of guitar literature at the Library of Catalonia accompanied by the violinist Jaeha Ryu, and with the prelude participation of the young Catalan Sandra Cortijo winner of the 2023 Lopategui Youth Competition.

And finally, the solo participations of the great figures of the international scene such as the Canadian Laura Young and her program of the guitar between centuries and the Catalan maestro Carles Trepat with a tribute to the Catalan guitar school and to the maestro Quiroga on his 125th anniversary. Both concerts in the Toldrà auditorium of the Conservatori Municipal de Música de Barcelona.

The only concert that had to be cancelled due to the climatic emergency caused by the arrival of the cold snap was to be held at the Palau Güell by the Chilean guitarist Matías Inzunza, who presented a literary musical proposal inspired by Borges’ La Casa de Asterión. The good news is that it will be rescheduled for March.
